Scripture passage is John 6:22-59.

Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. How do you relate to the crowds who desire bread in this passage?
  2. The people walk away when Jesus says they must eat his flesh and drink his blood. Putting yourself in their shoes, why was this their response?
  3. What are the things you don’t have that you find yourself grumbling about?
  4. Consider the words of CS Lewis “It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” How does this resonate with you?
  5. Do you find yourself focused on the gifts rather than the giver? How so? Consider ways your home group can help you pause and consider the giver.
  6. What does focusing on eternity provide for us in the now?
  7. How can we begin to cultivate a mindset focused on eternity?
