- What do you think of when you think of an altar? What was the altar in biblical times?
- Consider the 4 views below. What do these views have in common? How does communion help our faith? What encouragement can you gain from communion every week
- Roman Catholic: during the priest prayer, the bread remains the bread in what we view but it actually becomes Jesus’ body.
- Evangelical View: the bread is just bread and Jesus is not present but up in heaven.
- Lutheran View: Jesus is with the bread, he doesn’t become bread but he is present with the bread.
- Reformed View: Jesus’ real presence through the Holy Spirit which ministers to and nourishes us.
- Consider how the Table spans time from the last supper to the new heavens and new earth, and brothers and sisters around the world partake. What does this truth communicate to you? Why is this significant?
- If you are in Christ, what is your identity? What are you tempted to make your identity? Do you need accountability and encouragement to remember your identity?
- You work matters to God. Spend some time encouraging one another and consecrating the work of your hands to God for his glory and your good.
