God Flicked, I planted
God compelled me to the point where I could no longer resist. I had a decision, check that- we (Mari Anne and I) had a decision to make. Do we venture east and serve at an existing church community or do we move to Oak Cliff in Dallas and plant a church? I sat on the couch of a dear friend’s home and asked him to pray for us. He said he would pray and I’m sure he did.
Within a day or 2, Mari Anne and I both knew what we wanted and what we’d do. We’re gonna stay and plant a church in Oak Cliff, Dallas. Our happy collided with God’s yes smack in the middle of Oak Cliff. God does that kind of thing. A flick on the ear.
At 10:45am on October 1, 2017 St Jude Oak Cliff will have a public kick off Worship service at Cliff Temple Baptist Church. We, a Presbyterian mission church will meet in a Baptist church building and our mission church is named after St Jude. Somehow it all harmonizes.
When St Paul spoke of his church planting endeavors he summed up this way, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” (I Corinthians 3:6). The apostle rightly yielded to the grace of God and the power of the Gospel in all that he did. The question is- why did the Apostle plant a church in the first place? God flicked his ear. And he said, yes.
Thank you God for Jesus, the Gospel and the occasional flick on the ear.
